Tastes

Did a tasting between it and lagavulin 16 - ardbeg is great, but very in-your-face. I prefer lagavulin though, but ardbeg is a close runnerup. The nose is more pungent and smoky. The color is actually very light - I was surprised when I poured it out at first. Straw colored. Very bold.

Good for mixing, but not for sipping

I had this a long time ago and it turned me off of scotch for 10 years. My mother in law drinks it, so I have a bottle at home and try it occasionally. I don't recommend it. Its not cheap, (not expensive either), but it tasted like a $5 bottle you'd buy to throw in some kind of punch.

Seems very young, especially compared to another whiskey. Not complex at all. It has a bite to it - not particularly smooth. But a decent whiskey to drink and I will enjoy it again. Definitely a party whiskey versus a special treat bottle.

This is the closest thing you can get to a bourbon outside of the US. Very light and smooth, but unfortunately the taste doesn't linger long enough on the tongue. I'm looking forward to visiting the distillery next march!

Very peaty and smoky - almost like drinking a campfire (but in a good way). It took a while to open up, but once it did the aromas and flavor stayed with me for the night. Lagavulin is better, but dollar for dollar Laphroaig takes the cake.

Got it as an anniversary gift, and while it had an almost overpowering smokiness at first, once it opened up it was delicious. By far the best smoky whiskey I've had so far. Super smooth and balanced. Thanks Ron Swanson!

Great nose - smells lightly smoky. Reminds me of smoked pork - delicious. Added some water to take the bite off. The finish was slightly strong and not as smooth as I expected. Affordable though

Takes a little while to open up when it's neat from a fresh bottle, but once it does it smells of smooth vanilla with a bite at the very end. A little lighter body than redbreast, with almost a honey flavor. Best scotch I've had so far
