Kentucky Owl 11 Year Rye (Batch #1)
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 21, 2019 (edited October 25, 2020)A solid rye but a bit overpriced for what it is. Looks great on a shelf though. -
Abraham Bowman Sweet XVI Bourbon
Bourbon — Virginia, USA
Reviewed July 19, 2019 (edited December 20, 2021)Absolutely, positively one of the most memorable pours I’ve tried...ever. To put it in perspective...It was a special day so I tried a $200 pour of ultra rare BTAC Saz 18 y.o. as my first drink of the night. Then I ordered the Sweet XVI....it made me forget about the Saz... Magical stuff...too bad it’s impossible to find. -
Tried this in Louisville, KY about a year ago at our hotel...I HATED it. Very boozy with very little flavor. Must have been an old bottle that sat on the shelf too long. Decided to give it another try recently and bought a bottle...WOW. Truly magical stuff. Great bite at 107 proof with lots of signature BT caramel and butterscotch flavor with unmatched wheater smoothness. Lesson learned: every bottle is different and palettes evolve.

This is the whiskey that got me totally hooked. Full disclosure...I paid $180 for it in Vail Village, CO. I asked about Pappy 15, the clerk quoted me $1800...then said “I have something just as good for 1/10th the price.” I was drunk, on vacation in a rich man’s town, I got rolled...s-t happens. Zero regrets. Now that we have that out of the way...W12 is a very special pour. A very gentle bite at 92 proof and a light, sweet finish with plenty of BT’s signature goodness. Not quite Pappy but it’s in the same room. Buy it if you can get it for under $100...maybe more if you are feeling spendy. It won’t let you down.

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch C918
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 19, 2019 (edited January 24, 2020)A full volume cinnamon and caramel bomb. Holds its own with BTAC bottles costing many times as much. Very hot straight out of the bottle but a few drops of water keeps the alcohol from overwhelming the outstanding assortment of flavors. -
Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 18, 2019 (edited July 30, 2019)A solid pour but doesn’t quite live up to the hype for me. RHF is vastly superior at 100 proof.
