Classic nose of vanilla and caramel but with a nice grassy, almost artichokes and mint kick. Orange citrus shows up on the back too. Flavor shows much of the same, which is quite pleasant and easy to drink. Minty orange liqueur on the finish, which is lengthy if lacking a bit of weight and mouthfeel.

Henry McKenna 10 Year Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 26, 2020 (edited March 3, 2020)Nose of vanilla, caramel, cinnamon red hots, sweet woody notes, and ripe apples. Pretty sweet on the nose, but quite inviting. Slick mouthfeel with a wallop of vanilla and oak. Apple shines after the initial vanilla bomb, lending to a nice, if somewhat abrupt, finish. Solid bourbon but not worth secondary prices. If finish was longer and had some more complexity, I'd have given it a much higher rating.50.0 USD per Bottle -
Weller Special Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 21, 2020 (edited November 13, 2020)Such a good, easy sipper. Sweet caramel corn, vanilla, oak, brown sugar, and a little banana on the nose. Brown sugar, oak spice, caramel, toasted marshmallow, and that nice note of banana on the long finish. Got it for 22$ retail. For that much, this is such a winner.22.0 USD per Bottle -
Explosive aromas jumping out at me, caramel, butterscotch, annise, mint, cinnamon, dark cocoa powder, black cherry, cedar, oak, pine, medicinal, shoe polish. So much going on in here and its screaming to be let out of the bottle. Multi leveled flavor here. First, its luxurious in the mouth. So smooth and very little burn. Starts with some smoke and cinnamon, turns into caramel turtles, vanilla, oak, and more oak dominate the super long finish. Minutes First experience with a bourbon of this age and I am a fan. Excellent job balancing sweetness with oak tannins that come with barrel age. Now to try and not drink it too fast...189.0 USD per Bottle

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch C919
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 10, 2020 (edited February 26, 2020)Very sweet nose. Lots of vanilla, sweet cinnamon, brown sugar, molasses. There's definitely some savoriness too with leather, tobacco, shoe polish, and some barrel char going on. Palate shows slow heat, but it's there, and not overwhelming. Brown sugar and molasses, vanilla, snickerdoodle cookies, leather, spearmint, and it kinda finishes a bit like the way an old bookstore smells. Very smooth and mouth coating. Freakin great stuff. Wow, what a potent bourbon with an astronomically high ABV that is much more approachable for me than maybe expected with just a few drops of water. Proof of what proper storage does over 12 years in Kentucky. Beautiful stuff.60.0 USD per Bottle -
George T. Stagg Bourbon (Fall 2017)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 9, 2020 (edited September 5, 2021)What a nose. Intense leather, spice cake, maple syrup, woodsy oak, pipe tobacco, black cherry, vanilla extract, cinnamon rolls. Every freakin time I put down the glass and pick it back up again it gets more complex. This is intoxicating. Wow! I'm not getting much heat on this which is amazing. It lets all the flavors just dance on my tongue and it is super smooth. Vanilla, charred oak, cherry pie, maple syrup, cinnamon, all intense and evolving. This is just straight up delicious bourbon. Attempting to savor it... -
WhistlePig Old World Series Sauternes Finish Rye 12 Year
Rye — Indiana (bottled in Vermont), USA
Reviewed February 9, 2020 (edited February 10, 2020)Nose is luscious and sweet. Apricot, vanilla, white chocolate, orange blossom honey, cherry cola, birch bark, cinnamon, white pepper, allspice, and more. Whoa, smoke initially but quickly turns to vanilla root beer, apricots with whipped cream and caramel, black pepper, and more smoke on the finish. Pretty sweet rye with that really interesting smokiness up front and at the back end, love it. Finish is med+ with nice body and almost no burn but it does make my mouth tingle in a very pleasant way. This is a complex rye through and through. Being a wine lover as well, I appreciate the Sauternes barrel influence and the nuanced sweet complexities it adds.140.0 USD per Bottle -
Baker's Single Barrel Bourbon 7 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 8, 2020 (edited March 10, 2020)Found it in a Specs in the Houston area for 45$, and it's good, but I've seen it closer to 60-70$ range which is too much for this bourbon. Not too sweet vanilla and carmel on the nose mingles well with oak char and some notes of fennel and licorice. Palate has the vanilla and oak char flavors while more peanut and some tannins follow. Finish is short-moderate and it slick but not really heavy. Solid find for under $50, but I wouldn't pay more than that for it.
