Old Fitzgerald Bottled in Bond 17 Year (Spring 2022)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 13, 2022 (edited July 29, 2022)What an amazing aroma of dark caramel dipped toasted oak, chocolate cream pie, apples with cinnamon and sugar, vanilla bean, and my grandpa sitting in an old leather chair puffing away on his old pipe. Incredibly balanced and evocative, I keep smelling it. Surprisingly, the fruit hits first with bright red apple and red cherry before the toasted oak washes over the palate. Awesome weight and smoothness on the here too with hot cinnamon, clove, vanilla, and toasted marshmallow bring much welcome spice and sweetness to the party. Finish is long lasting and flavorful with more toasty oak and caramel. Damn near perfection. There’s nothing I would change about this bourbon. Nose is amazing, oak doesn’t dominate, super smooth and lively in the mouth, incredibly complex and moreish. My favorite Old Fitz to date -
Woodford Reserve Master's Collection Five-Malt Stouted Mash
Other Whiskey — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 11, 2022 (edited June 6, 2022)There's no denying this is distilled from dark roasted malts. Dark chocolate, toasted pumpernickel bread, black coffee, blackstrap molasses, and a little hint of cinnamon and anise. Brooding and definitely smells of dark malts. Tastes just like I'm drinking a vanilla late. There's plenty of Cocoa Puffs cereal, dark chocolate, Tootsie Rolls, and brownies on the palate. Full bodied and smooth but the low proof seems to keep the finish in check a bit too much. Very seamless in its flavors though and although it tastes unlike much I've had before, I rather enjoyed it. -
Wilderness Trail 6 Year Bottled in Bond Bourbon (Wheated Bourbon)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 11, 2022Butterscotch, Snickerdoodle Cookies, fruity, minty, herbal, leather, and oak on the nose. Fruit leans more toward cherry and lemon with mint, butterscotch and milk chocolate. The leathery oak comes very welcomely at the end of the interesting nose. Wouldn't necessarily have guessed wheated blindly but a very enjoyable nose. Caramel, mint, orange, and cherry come quickly on the palate. Light and smooth on the tongue with a nice texture to the Bourbon. The wheat has kept the flavor and smoothness very in tune for the style and although the nose didn't scream wheat to me, the palate surely does. Really delectable bourbon. I just want to keep drinking it and it is easy to drink. Finish last longer than I expected too although it isn't as much of a standout than the nose and palate. Overall a very nice wheated bourbon and a nice surprise -
Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch C921
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 29, 2022 (edited March 30, 2022)Roasted nuts, maple syrup, dark chocolate, red cherries, orange frosting, sweet tobacco, and toasted oak are laid out on the beautiful nose. Potent vapors without any ethanol, great start. Sweet, viscous, and spicy to open up with roasted nuts, cotton candy, sweet cinnamon, clove, black cherry, and maple syrup. Finish is definitely drier than expected with toasted oak, honey roasted peanuts, and clove on the long finish. Second bottle of Larceny BP and much like the first bottle I tried, not a disappointment. Would love to keep these on my shelf when I can find them. -
Mayor Pingree 15 Year Black Label Bourbon
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed March 25, 2022 (edited July 7, 2023)Potent nose of cherry pie, 'smores, leather, toasted cherry wood, lemon-lime gummy soda candies, and fresh raspberries. There's a lot going on here and it smells amazing. Rich and mouth coating with chocolate covered cherries, toasted oak, tobacco, nutmeg, vanilla frosting, root beer, anise, and cinnamon spice. The finish is very long lasting and lingers for minutes. Balanced with sweet chocolate covered cherries, tobacco, and toasted oak. Serious bourbon and really amazing stuff. This 15 year MGP is not something you stumble upon any more. This is some special stuff -
Rabbit Hole Dareringer Straight Bourbon Finished in PX Sherry Casks
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 25, 2022 (edited March 20, 2023)Sweet sherry fruits like raisin and dried fig mingle with jasmine tea, graham cracker, Heath Bar, and cinnamon stick on the nose. A tad surprisingly, I'm finding some earthy, barrel funk and woodsy oak too. Very inviting and sweet with plenty of PX sherry influence and great complexity. Beautiful weight on the palate and nicely sweet. Entry is loaded with fig, caramel, white chocolate, and a lightly toasted oak. Finish has good length and is nicely sweet with those same sherry fruits and coconut with just a touch of toasty oak. Thoroughly enjoyed this. Smooth, sweet, well balanced finished bourbon. -

High West A Midwinter Night's Dram Act 9 (All Scenes)
Rye — (bottled in) Utah, USA
Reviewed January 7, 2022 (edited February 23, 2022)Alluring nose of vanilla, red berries, caramel, dry oak, and Chinese Five Spice. Some more of the rye spice and herbaceous dill come out as it rests and oxygen begins to do its thing. Very nice mouthfeel with some good richness and concentration. Counter to the nose, the rye comes out first with spicy anise and black pepper. Cherry cola, cinnamon, red berries, and vanilla come next. Flavors are very well balanced and show the port barrel finish and the rye. Finish is nicely sweet with a good amount of berries and vanilla cream. Some drying oak and tobacco carry the finish until it finally dissipates on the tongue. Very impressed with this. Been searching for a bottle at msrp for a while now and I am not let down in the slightest. Flavors abound and aren’t shy, palate is decadent, and the finish is sweet and lasts for minutes. As potent flavors as a barrel proof but without the burn. Highly recommended90.0 USD per Bottle -
Angel's Envy Rye Finished in Caribbean Rum Casks
Rye — USA
Reviewed January 1, 2022 (edited January 28, 2022)Quite simply...this smells like aged rum with a little bit of rye on the end. Molasses, maple syrup, caramelized banana, butterscotch, and a little pine and dill. Although the rum finish has taken hold, it smells delicious. I am definitely a fan of aged rum and this is oozing with the scents of rum. Perhaps a bit too much. We'll see Molasses, overripe banana, and dry oak open up and are quite prevalent throughout the whole palate. More pine and black pepper. It is prickly on the tongue. A little bit of cinnamon and nutmeg take a look around but don't stay for long. Nice viscosity and mouthfeel but it doesn't feel as significant on the palate as I expected. Probably because I am expecting to sip on rum because my mind has tricked me into thinking that's what this is because I associate the smell to rum. I'm not sure if I like this honestly. It tastes more like a harsh rum than a sweet finished rye. Very little of the actual rye whiskey remains. I do enjoy it in a way, but I'm not sure how often I am going to want something like this. I see why this is polarizing.90.0 USD per Bottle
