Tastes

Take two drops of maple syrup. Whisk into cold water. I have just given you the mash bill for this bottle. My father tried to pawn his opened-but-two-fingers-low bottle on me as a great mixing whiskey, but I get the distinct feeling he was making room in his cabinet for another bottle of Blantons. Thankfully, I have friends who enjoy their whiskey with a can of coke, so the bottle didn't go wasted.

It's good. Its smooth. It's standard. A little on the sweet side for my taste. But whatever, that's why there are ryes in the world.

I tried this at a bar, first straight, then with a cube. Can't say it's a bad whiskey; far from it. But I couldn't get past the plumes of campfire smoke on the back end to the more floral notes I could tell were underneath. Maybe I'll try it again another time, but I'm guessing that's just me being polite to an inanimate bottle of whiskey.

Smoky on the start for me. But I like the smoke. Slow burn on the back nine.
