Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 13, 2016 (edited February 20, 2016)It's not world class whiskey like the score indicates but it's really good. It's the only heaven hill bourbon I like and I like it a lot. The classic flavor profile has a slight citrus zing as it goes down the hatch. A welcome site to whiskey enthusiasts of all types. -
Henry McKenna 10 Year Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 13, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)Great price point if you like this stuff. My palate drowns in oranges when I drink this juice. That's my experience with most heaven hill bourbons so I guess it's just not my type. -
John J Bowman Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Virginia, USA
Reviewed February 13, 2016 (edited February 26, 2016)I'd say a bit underrated with the 82 score. It's definitely buffalo trace juice which is a good thing in my book. Nice vanilla and cherry cola flavors - qualities I find unique to this bottle. Great balance at 100 proof as well. Hard to find in my neck of the woods and expensive ($55) when it is available. Worth a try for sure. -

High West A Midwinter Night's Dram
Rye — (bottled in) Utah, USA
Reviewed December 2, 2015 (edited December 12, 2015)Holy Crap. This is good. Love the red fruit explosion up front with a nice rye spice tingle as it fades to black. Best served after dinner with good friends. Act 3 Scene 3. -
Parker's Heritage Promise of Hope
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 2, 2015 (edited December 5, 2023)I gave three stars because it hurt too much to give it two. I wanted to love this bottle. My first real limited release find. Found this lonely bottle on the shelf almost two years after it was released at retail price. I bought it and couldn't bring myself to open it. Finally I gave in, poured a glass, and it was awful. Maybe I'm missing something or my bottle was bad, but wild turkey 101 has a leg up on my bottle. Not sweet, no depth, and an almost sour finish. It tasted young...or like it had spoiled. I didn't think whikey went bad. Maybe my palate is broken. So disappointing. Update 11/22/17 - after a year or so of oxidization, the bottle has blossomed into a beautiful whiskey - a trend I’ve noticed with other PHC offerings. Gone is the oaky bitterness, and now just an incredible balance of sweetness and spice remains. As close to a perfect bourbon as I’ve tasted. Maybe my favorite of all time. I wish I hadn’t had to wait until half of the bottle was gone to taste the perfection. The hype and marks on this bottle is justified -
Parker's Heritage Malt Whiskey 8 Year
Other Whiskey — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 21, 2015 (edited November 15, 2015)This round of Parker's hasn't gotten a whole lot of love compared to previous releases, but I'm into the Malt. It's definitely not a bourbon, but clearly has been bred from corn as the sweetness has not been lost. Loving the carmel/peanut flavor profile. The nose promises a bit more than the palate delivers, but extremely mild mannered going down for a 108 proofer. Neat, glencairn glass. -
Simply brilliant rye. Was skeptical of sourced whiskies but HW has changed my perspective. Such an amazing dance of mellowed, matured, woody, and carmel-ly (peaches?!) sweet along with the slightly subdued spicy backbone of a younger rye. Although I think EH Taylor rye is amazing, I'd rather have a Rendezvous with High West given the chance.
