George Dickel 11 Year Bottled in Bond Tennessee Whisky (Fall 2008)
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed August 28, 2020 (edited December 22, 2020)To quote user FAFNIR187: "It’s not every day you can walk in and grab something with 10+ years on it off the shelf for a reasonable price, so despite not being a big Dickel fan in the past, I am intrigued. Let’s see what we have here. Fairly mild aroma of apple, corn dust, pecan, nutmeg, ethanol, and a little of that Flintstone vitamin note but it’s very faint. Palate opens with rich vanilla, caramel covered apple, and oak, transitioning to cinnamon, orange, and cherry in the mid palate. Finish features barrel char, the nutmeg from the nose, and just a hint of mineral. I’m going to tell you if I got Flintstones it was going to kill it for me, but it’s more of a mineral spring note and in no way unpleasant. Finish is short, but very low in heat making this a super easy dipper. Full creamy mouthfeel an unexpected bonus." Was pleasantly surprised, great body and mouthfeel, prominent cherry, enjoyable. Not typical of Dickel for me. Make sure the bottle you come across says "bottled in Tullahoma" on the side. If it doesn't, you'll have a different experience. -

Elmer T. Lee 100 Year Tribute Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 23, 2020 (edited October 10, 2021)To quote DUBZ480: ‘It's got a velvety mouth feel with lots of vanilla, toffee and maple syrup notes up front. Then you get berries and some fig notes leading to wood spice/toasted oak driven finish with a dash of cinnamon. It lingers on the tongue. Really well executed.’ This pour is the standard against which I’ll hold all other bourbons against.Gertie's Bar -
Tried this after OWA. User OLDPARKERJOE nailed it: ‘ose is nearly indistinguishable from OWA. Green apple. Brown sugar and maple syrup. Caramel. Very classic nose with the green apple Buffalo Trace signature. OWA is in my top 3 so this is a good start. Palate is pleasant. More of a low key version of OWA given the proof. Round mouthfeel. Hints of chocolate but mainly caramel and maple syrup. Damn good. Finish is medium, slightly lacking but not bad. I like higher proof so currently giving the edge to OWA but this is damn good.’ The 12 is a great pour, a little on the sweeter side than I would like (this likely shines through due to the lower proof). I put this behind Weller Full Proof and Antique, In that order. Interested to see where CYPB will line up.Gertie's Bar

Weller Antique 107 Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 23, 2020 (edited September 2, 2020)Quoting user BTROYDEL: ‘The sweetest and savory aroma of French toast and syrup. Nose: brown sugar, vanilla, maple syrup Palate: such a smooth, cherry and vanilla palate with sweetness and not bite given there’s no rye. Just a beautiful expression of bourbon.’ Prefer this to the 12 year which was too sweet.Gertie's Bar -
