Woodford Reserve Double Oaked
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 27, 2018 (edited January 31, 2018)I love this bourbon. I feel like regular Woodford has too much tails - like a wet dog has lapped up a little of the distillate before it hits the barrel. But the double-oaked is gorgeous - a caramel bomb expertly balanced by oak char. Buy this one for your best friend to commemorate the important times, or just for yourself on Thursday. -
Weller Special Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 27, 2018 (edited May 3, 2018)I get my bottle for $19 from a dive package store in ATL. He’s got maybe 10 bourbons on the shelf but usually carries WSR, which makes me a loyal customer. It’s a fantastic bottle for under $20, don’t let anyone else try and fool you. I serve this to friends who think only of Makers or Beam when someone says “bourbon” and it’s like a lightbulb going off on their face at the first taste. So it’s my daily sipper until it’s rarity makes it unfindable, like it’s older W12 and OWA cousins. -
A robust, powerful bourbon. You aren’t old enough for this. Once you move out of that two-bedroom apartment, get married, buy a real house, and then send your kids off to college so you can convert their bedroom into a leather filled library, you might be worthy to crack open this bottle and relax while smoking a pipe and reading Ernest Hemingway. Until then, stick to your Jack and coke.
