    I am a big fan of the Glendronach 12 and was excited to try the 18 year. Although it did seem to be a little smoother (and of course still a huge sherry-bomb due to the Oloroso), I don't believe its that much a higher quality/taste than the 12 to justify the difference in price.

    It's a good entry to the Glenfiddich range and a good 'go-to' if you just need something to drink that's not peaty, Sherry Bomb etc.

    Once you've tasted similar Buffalo Trace whiskeys you realize that this one is more the 'entry level' to the distillery brands and it lies more to the rye side than the wheat in terms of taste.

    Definitely not at the same level of the Casg Annamh and A'Bunadh Alba which are smoother in taste.

    Definitely one of my tops five alongside the Glendronachs. The A'Bunadh Alba is a little smoother than the Casg Annamh but also has a little more kick to it.

    A slightly darker, not quite as smooth as the A'Bunadh Alba, the Casg Annamh is still in the 'sherry-bomb' class but doesn't have quite as much kick as the Alba.

    As this is a wheated bourbon it wasn't as harsh as the rye but still brings plenty of heat although not too fierce and the after taste is more pleasant that the rye versions.
