Calumet Farm 12 Year Single Rack Black Bourbon (Discontinued)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 14, 2020 (edited January 5, 2022)Fairly soft nose of banana cream and black cherries with honeyed almonds. Again, soft on the palate with more prominent almond and raw hazelnut. Vanilla and oak tannins ramp up in the finish. A very enjoyable whisky, but at a price... -
Johnny Drum Private Stock Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 31, 2020 (edited October 15, 2020)Baked apple pie with vanilla and obvious toasted oak in the nose. On the palate there’s a sweetness that is decidedly caramel and vanilla dominated. Mild mint spice shows in the finish with medium length. -
Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 30, 2020 (edited September 7, 2020)Bold nose of baked apples, spicy cinnamon, lanolin and soft campfire smoke. On the palate spicy nutmeg and roasted almonds reign supreme. Everything about this whisky starts big bold and intense, and continues to fade away down through a very muted and quick finish. -
Bardstown Bourbon Co. Château de Laubade Armagnac Finish
Bourbon — Indiana (bottled in Kentucky), USA
Reviewed August 27, 2020 (edited September 20, 2024)Wow what a nose! Dripping with orchard fruit, worn leather, flint smoke and poached pear and apples. On the palate peach and spied pear sing with heavy influences of baking spice and the same worn leather in the nose. The finish lingers for ages and reinforces all of the wonderful notes from earlier. A terrific whisky that I cant possibly have enough of! -
Bardstown Bourbon Co. Copper & Kings American Apple Brandy Finish
Bourbon — Indiana (bottled in Kentucky), USA
Reviewed August 27, 2020 (edited November 24, 2020)Nose of fresh pear and orange peel with strong apple and soft cinnamon. On the palate there’s strong oak influence with nutmeg and apple cider vinegar. Defiantly drinks on the hot side. Finishes with notes of worn leather and more dried fruit character. -
Weller Antique 107 Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 24, 2020 (edited September 7, 2020)Vanilla and honey nose with peach and cherry. More obvious oak influence on the palate. Soft sweet cinnamon and peaches with buttery pastry crust. Finishes strong and just a touch hot and a little unbalanced. -
Bright orchard fruit on the nose with poached pear, apricot, and maraschino cherries. It’s exceptionally expressive and inviting. Super soft on the palate, becoming more muted as time goes on. A quick finish makes this so much more forgettable that I would have hoped. The nose promises the world, and only delivers about 20% on that promise. Disappointing.
