I'd recommend this deliciously marvelous beverage be consumed Neat... However if you were to add a splash of water it may bring down the spice from the high proof... This is a well blended small batch, from me understanding the isn't a qualified standard regarding "Small Batch" so will have to leave this up to each individual distillery's subjective ideals. People say this is a hidden gem of a bourbon, with this being said most don't know of it and the design on the bottle doesn't lead you to believe it is an aged bourbon. There is complexity and non-complexity to this bourbon, it is Light, Smooth, Fruity, Sweet, with some nice aged wood notes. From me 2020 review... This me friends is a beverage that misses it's Mark in me book. There is a great mouth feel, Sweetness, Caramels, and then it quickly dissipates to an off sour flavor mixed with mild plastics. I thought in 2020 we had an odd bottle but 9 months later we have the same plastic, muted, sour flavors... When adding ice it calms down the odd flavors and adds to the Aroma but really waters down everything else! I didn't record the price on 2020 but now it is $55.00 personally I feel not worth the price, there are many other better buys with more robust flavors out there! There is a certain bitterness on the finish like that of a Brut Champagne. Over all this is grand beverage worth the investment as it might be higher than most. It's full bodied, oily and rich with a certain spice to it that you characteristically don't get with a wheated whiskey; don't get me wrong me friends this is a remarkably smooth whiskey . This is a very good warming whiskey to enjoy with your friends, family and special someone during the fall and winter seasons, but could be remarkably fresh in the summer with slight ice added to the beverage to bring out more of it's rich, bold flavors. Now they are bottling at 6% more proof than before, I'm not sure if this would change the Taste and Flavor profiles that much... PLEASE DO NOT GET ME WRONG... Wisconsin! They corner the market on Korbel Brandy but that is another story... The original Old Fitzgerald was introduced in 1870 & maintains the traditional premium wheated whiskey mashbill that John Fitzgerald and Pappy Van Winkle established. This is Good, Not Bad Bottle of Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey that is nice, smooth, and Wheatie. Great for mixers! Neat, Rocks, if you can get it grab 2 bottles at this great price!
