Nose: Rich brown sugar or toffee with a hint of corn and ethanol as well as a touch of fruit sweetness but oddly no trace of the “robust woodiness” that the label describes. Palate: An explosion of hard candy sweetness and robust woodiness with a hint of corny ethanol on the backside. Finish: Relatively short lived in contrast to the explosion of flavor on the palate but a hint of oak lingers as a quiet aftertaste. I enjoyed exploring the flavor of this bourbon but would likely not buy it again so it is definitely a buy but not a staple.

On the nose there us a pleasant oak and juicy fruit gum with just a hint of cotton candy. The nose follows through on the pallet with a touch of caramel and vanilla. This sip is prickly on the tongue with the burn coating the inside of the lips and mouth, reaching just the top portion of the throat. The flavor largely disappears quickly as you swallow with only a hint of oak remaining, but the warmth is long lasting. Adding water dilutes the flavor but not the burn or prickly mouthfeel.50.0 USD per Bottle

Remus Highest Rye Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Indiana , USA
Reviewed September 10, 2023 (edited August 21, 2024)Nose: Leather, cotton candy, toffee and sweet hay Palate: The nose follows through on the palate with added spice and corn, finishing with dry oak. It drinks a little warm but delightfully so. The Remus Straight Bourbon 94 proof was just okay. Nothing I would buy again at $40. This was a delightful bourbon I would buy again at $50.50.0 USD per BottleMaple Party Shop -
On the nose is fresh sweet hay and corn along with smarties and peanut that seem to blend together like a payday candy bar with a touch of fruitiness. The palate is not as complex - fruity, corny oak on first sip. Subsequent sips devolve into a salty caramel and corny hay that finish with a clean dry oak. Adding a touch of water increases the viscosity while muting the flavors to a vague sweet corny hay. While it is interesting and different it doesn’t have the classic Larceny flavor profile I enjoy with the rich dark brown sugars and dark fruit. This is a no for my palate but still a quality bourbon.60.0 USD per Bottle

On first crack this was typical MGP spicy toffee dried fruit with a bit of cocoa powder and oak on the back end. After sitting on the shelf for a month or two it opened up into a sweet candied version of itself with a creamy mouthfeel that leads into a warm tingly tongue feel with a long warm finish that largely stays in the mouth and jaw with some of it sliding into a gentle KY hug.

13th Colony Double Oaked Bourbon Whiskey Cask Strength
Bourbon — Georgia, USA, USA
Reviewed April 14, 2023 (edited December 31, 2023)The palate is just as dark and rich as the color and nose of this whiskey. Dark rich sugars, molasses, brown sugar, and oak are so intense and rich that it is indescribable. The finish is long and flavorful. At 135.3 proof there is definitely a KY bear hug and my lips want to go numb if I take too big a sip. You know, it wouldn’t hurt my feelings at all if my dentist used this to numb me up for dental work. -
Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch C922
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 25, 2022 (edited September 21, 2023)Reminiscent of Ezra Brooks without the dustiness. Mix 2 parts apple pie filling with 1 part cherry pie filling served on a graham cracker crust with a sprinkle of brown sugar in terms of flavor but not sweetness. The tartness balances the sweetness. There is a little oak on the backside of the sip. The hug lingers but the flavor does not. C921 is still my favorite.64.0 USD per Bottle
