Bernheim 7 Year Original Wheat Whiskey
Wheat Whiskey — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 19, 2022 (edited June 23, 2022)The nose is buttered toast and apple juice with a little lemon and spice. The palate is rich, buttered toast, honey, apple juice and spice. Apple peel lingers on the tongue after the finish. On first crack the buttered toast dominates nose snd palate. After some time in the glass the apple and honey are more prominent.35.0 USD per Bottle -
For some reason banana just seems out of place in a bourbon. The initial nose is exclusively banana runts, not even real banana fruit. Give it time in the glass and it will evolve into banana bread and baking spices. On the palate, banana bread, cinnamon and maybe a hint of oak if you want it bad enough. Seems hot for 100 proof. If you love bananas, this bourbon is for you. If you love bourbon, find something else.

Eagle Rare is definitely above average but not quite 4 stars especially with the poor availability and the $60 price tag. I turned it down at $60 but was willing to try it at $50. This is certainly a pleasant bourbon but not slap your mama good. I would purchase it again only occasionally for under $45 but I can see why people who can get it for $30 use it as an easy daily sipper. Nose: Vanilla, caramel, grape soda Palate: Caramel, vanilla, oak and grape soda50.0 USD per Bottle

There is a bright fruitiness of apple and citrus and then brown sugar and creamy toffee before harsh baking spices kick in the back door and explode onto the scene with a hint of herbal notes on the backside. It starts out very pleasing and ends on a harsh note leaving you with the feeling that you just had a door slammed in your face. That might be why so many people use it as a mixer. But honestly, there are tastier cheaper bourbons to use as mixers.28.0 USD per Bottle

At first crack this bourbon was all fresh cut grass and raw dough with a heartburn type sensation that is different from the classic wonderful Ky hug on most bourbons I’ve tried. I waited a week and gave it another try. N: Caramel, oak and vanilla with a hint of grass P: Rich Caramel, molasses and leather with oak and leather on the finish. Long finish. The oak and leather lingered delightfully for more than 5 minutes. I would buy this on a regular basis at $35 but only occasionally at $4545.0 USD per Bottle

Henry McKenna 10 Year Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 10, 2022 (edited April 19, 2022)Vanilla icing, oak and slight fruit on the nose. Creamy mouthfeel. The palate is richer than the nose with caramel, vanilla icing, oak, dried fruit, leather, tobacco and citrus with a punch of Christmas spices on the back. Honestly I think this bottle keeps getting better with each pour. I just spent 25 minutes nosing and sipping one pour.58.0 USD per Bottle -
It was much better than I expected initially. Average but nothing that stands out. I had it neat. Nose - Fruit, vanilla and oak Palate - Cinnamon, oak, vanilla, raw dough and corn. It has a creamy mouthfeel that I did not expect. Not much finish but a mildly sweet oak lingers for awhile. The longer the bottle opened up the stronger the raw dough note became. What started out as a 3 ⭐️ bourbon ended up being a 2 ⭐️ bourbon.

Tasted neat. Nose: Brown sugar, white grapes, and vanilla Palate: Maple, vanilla, white grapes with very slight oak and cinnamon Finish: Little to no finish at 80 proof This is a very soft and easy sipper for those who are new to whiskey but at $30 is much too expensive for what you get compared to other offerings.

Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch C921
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 20, 2022 (edited February 22, 2022)Nose: Rich brown sugar, dark fruit, delightfully oaky with ever so slight caramel, vanilla and citrus. Imagine sitting at a plate of waffles covered in hot rich maple syrup sitting next to a man wear a pleasantly spicy citrus cologne. Palate: Rich dark brown sugar, dark fruits with slight citrus and oak Finish: Semi long warm to hot finish that makes the mouth and lips tingle with only a tiny momentary hug; flavored with sweet oak and vanilla This is the shelf iteration to its fullest richest potential. D@mn this is delicious. I am new to the exploration of bourbon and even I could easily handle the proof. Hot enough to entertain but easy enough to drink without proofing down. My area charges $5-$10 more than MSRP across the board so $70 is not out of the realm of reason for this amazing wheated bourbon. If I was a hoarder this would totally be bunker worthy.70.0 USD per Bottle -
Ezra Brooks 99 Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 12, 2022 (edited July 25, 2024)Neat - rich brown sugar, bright apple and caramel with slight butter and vanilla on the nose. On the palate, rich dark brown sugar, caramel and apple pie; leather and oak on the finish. There is something flat and stale about it once it opens up in the bottle. Maybe it’s the charcoal mellowing process.
