Jack Ryan 12 Year Single Malt
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed August 4, 2021 (edited September 27, 2021)Nose has a light caramel note with light fruity note coming through, reminiscent of a chardonnay. Some earthy/musty note is showing at the end. Initial taste was sweet and earthy, though the most noteworthy thing is the strong finish which is spicy, oaky and malty which lingers on the palate. This whiskey seemed to open up more with the fruit notes as it sat in the glass. -
Nose: Fresh fruit and briny notes are upfront which reminded me of an apple cider. Light peat notes round off the nose. Nicely balanced. Taste: uniquely sweet and light peat with some light and crisp fruit flavors (green apple). Opened up to a briny, malt, and caramel notes. Pleasant and balanced. Finish: Followed the nose with light peat and fresh fruit flavors. Dissipated quickly which was a little disappointing. Overall I think this was an exceptional whisky. Very balanced and the nose followed through to the finish nicely. The finish could use more texture as the flavors seemed to disappear quickly. I believe it's missing some dried fruit notes to round off the crisp, fresh fruity flavors.

Nose: dried dark fruit, vanilla, milk chocolate, earthy. Very balanced. Not one note dominates over the other. Taste: Initial taste is an intense sherry mingling with brine, malt, and dried dark fruit notes. Reminds me of an exceptionally aged port. The texture is thick and oily. Again, very balanced and follows the nose very well. Finish: Intense chocolate and dried fruit (raisin). Follows the nose and palate very well and, once again, very balanced and smooth. Texture is oily and heavy. I could taste each sip for a half-hour. This makes it difficult to drink quickly, but also unnecessary to drink quickly or in high quantity since the taste lingers on the palate for so long. The balanced notes which start at the nose and follow through all the way to the finish offer a complete experience from start to finish, and luckily the finish is the longest I've ever tasted on a whisky. No alcohol burn. If you have the opportunity, try it. Hopefully this will be a reasonable price again at some point.

Lagavulin 9 Year (Game of Thrones-House Lannister)
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed April 22, 2021 (edited August 4, 2021)Nose: Light peat and toffee. Some hints of citrus. Getting notes of stale popcorn on more recent tastings. Palate: is not completely overpowering on the peat which opens up to caramel and brine. Finish: light peat, brine and slightly bitter. Smooth with no alcohol burn. Very nice for casual sipping if you enjoy peated whiskey.
