Tastes

The sample provided to me was Platte Valley Whisky. The first sip had a strong ethanol taste, but if you let it sit for 10 minutes, it becomes a nice and enjoyable drink. It’s good and clean, but it lacks the flavors I crave for in a whisky.

A plum finish with a bit of peat compared to the Hibiki Harmony

Had this the night before my wedding as a gift from the wifey. Sweet, creamy, toffee and butterscotch. Too bad I can only find this internationally but I would get another bottle in a heartbeat if I start traveling again as this is one of my faves.

A swift peppery and sweet taste

I guess there are good ryes out there! The color is gorgeous and the taste is creamy caramel with smooth spices that go right up to the line of being too hot but then backs off for a nice smooth finish. And if you want more spices, as a few drops of water as it opens up the spices notes.

The nose brings a subtle and sweet smell, more mild than any other cask strength, but when you bring it to the mouth, you taste a nice blend of oily vanilla and cinnamon that lingers with a spicy finish. What a great barrel pick.
