Michter's US*1 Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 15, 2021 (edited August 25, 2021)I like the nose a lot. Nice fragrant vanilla and maybe just a touch peanuts or peanut brittle. Nice sweet caramel and vanilla as this hits the tongue. I get hints of dark chocolate and coffee beans and it finishes with subtle cinnamon spice and muted oak. Nothing complex or different here, but it has a nice classic bourbon taste without any bitter aftertaste. If you can get this in the $30-40 range, it's not a bad daily sipper. Im not sure if this is still being sourced or if so by whom, but it does remind me a bit of Belle Meade, which is another solid if not exciting pour.35.0 USD per Bottle -
Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey (Discontinued)
American Single Malt — Colorado, USA
Reviewed August 15, 2021 (edited November 10, 2021)Had this after sampling several other various pours. I'm light on details, but the main takeaway was that this is not whiskey I enjoyed. It starts off nice and sweet, but ends with an earthy wet hay note that I find unappealing. I would certainly try this again, but I doubt it would change my overall opinion. Needless to say, I won't be buying my own bottle of Stranahan's Whiskey. -
Haven't had a pour of Eagle Rare in a while, so I cracked a fresh bottle tonight. Man, I had forgotten just how delicious and sippable this is. I don't think there is a better low proof bourbon out there. I'm just sipping for enjoyment tonight, so not much in the way of tasting notes. If there is anything lacking in this bourbon it's spice, but that isn't what this bourbon is about. It's all about being sweet, smooth, and easy drinking. This one is still a favorite for me.32.99 USD per Bottle

Weller Antique 107 Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 4, 2021 (edited October 11, 2021)I've nursed this bottle for a while now, but sadly I've finally reached the bottom. This was an Alabama ABC store pick, and it was delicious. This was my first bottle of 107, so I'm hoping they're all this good and I didn't just get a honey barrel. I get sweet toffee, vanilla, cinnamon, light tobacco and leather and the perfect amount of oak and char. Hope I can find another bottle at retsil sometime soon. This is definitely in my current top 2 or 3.49.99 USD per Bottle -
My first taste of Peerless bourbon is a quick pour over ice. It's a dark amber, with a nose of ethanol and vanilla. It starts with a sweet mash, but actual sweetness is hard to find. It tastes of young oak, very earthy with a musty corn note. There's vanilla, and a little spice. It's fairly hot and finishes with bitter oak. I'm not loving this on my first taste, but will give it another more though neat tasting the next go round.

Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 4, 2021 (edited December 2, 2021)Bottle kill and final thoughts on Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit. I liked this bottle a lot, but I feel it's a little overpriced at around $60. It has the typical turkey taste, but with more sweetness. I would definitely pick this up again if I could find it under $50, but would probably choose the cheaper and more flavorful Rare Breed as my favorite Wild Turkey offering. -
Michter's US*1 Kentucky Straight Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 25, 2021 (edited September 6, 2021)I tried this in a blind tasting about a week ago. My notes may be vague but I have a good idea of the general impression it left. Firstly, I was surprised to find that was a rye. I got hardly any peppery notes, infact I thought this might have been a wheater. The nose was mostly alcohol, but did have a bit if honeyed oat. It had a mildly sweet little bit if chocolate, and as I said before, very little spice. I would say this was a solid pour, but nothing really noteworthy to me. Maybe it's the barrel my bottle came from, or maybe it's me, I'm certainly no expert, but I like for my rye to taste like, you know, rye. -
Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof Tennessee Whiskey
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed July 25, 2021 (edited February 9, 2022)Tried this in a blind tasting, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out it was from Jack Daniels. I got lots of sweet toffee and vanilla on the front end and more of a smokey oak on the finish. There's no hiding the proof on this one, but it's a controlled burn that's certainly sippable neat. I didn't get that big laffy taffy note I pick up with the old number 7, but there is some banana there. I wouldn't necessarily say this is as good as Elijah Craig Barrel Proof or Stagg Jr, but it's a contender. The best thing about this barrel proof might be the fact you don't have to spend secondary money to get it. -
Bottle kill tonight on a store pick single barrel Buffalo Trace. I also saved a few ounces of a regular BT to contrast and compare so, It's actually a double bottle kill. The store pick presents all the classic BT flavors, caramel and toffee sweetness, smokey tobacco, and rich charred oak. The differences in the store pick and the standard bottle are so subtle that unless you're drinking them side by side you probably wouldn't notice. Granted, I'm sure there's differences from barrel to barrel. I think the store pick is slightly more flavorful, with just a little hint if fruitiness, where the regular is a tad smoother. I've found that this, and other Buffalo Trace products seem to hold up well on ice, unlike some bourbons that seem to get more bitter on the rocks. I think Buffalo Trace is solid bourbon, and one of my favorite sippers under $30. My only complaint is that it's a little more difficult to locate here in Alabama, although it is much more readily available in other parts of the country.28.99 USD per Bottle
