Last 3oz of bottle Nose: Apple, Vanilla Taste: viscous for 43% ABV, butterscotch, apple Finish: Oak and malt Value: straight down the middle 88 MpH fastball, no frills but gets the job done most of the time. Glengoyne 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed March 9, 2020 (edited January 26, 2021)bottle 1/4 full Nose: cereal, floral, coconut, brine, apples Taste: melon, brine, honey Finish: vanilla, butter, creme brulee. Thoughts: Pretty basic scotch with a coconut nose twist. The value is not there for me to run out and replace this. I love the ethos of the distillery, and recognize that this was a the result of careful labor that the masses could easily enjoy. Definitely worth trying, because you will enjoy it, but would be surprised if people stocked up on this particular bottle. 5.0 - go out and buy all of the stock you can find. 4.0 - must buy at least one bottle before you die. 3.0 - solid, must try at a bar, or mooch from a friend. 2.0 - didn't like it, you may. 1.0 - you may have the palate of my dog, and he licks his own ass.52.0 USD per Bottle -
Last dram of the bottle Nose: lemon pledge cleaner and ashtray Taste: citrus fruit, iodine, burnt rubber Finish: medium peat finish - not as "peat flash-back" inducing as Ardbeg 10 Value: Good, not great whisky. Glad I tried a whole bottle, but probably wouldn't buy again...too many other wonderful whiskys to try. 5.0 - go out and buy all of the stock you can find. 4.0 - must buy at least one bottle before you die. 3.0 - solid, must try at a bar, or mooch from a friend. 2.0 - didn't like it, you may. 1.0 - you may have the palate of my dog, and he licks his own ass.45.0 USD per Bottle

Kirkland 22 Year Speyside Single Malt Sherry Cask Finish
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed March 6, 2020 (edited December 4, 2020)Neck Pour: just opened Nose: dark fruits, honey, ripe apple - i like this aspect the most. Taste: thinner than I expected but reasonable for the 46% ABV. Oak and malt with a definite sherry influence/ essence, good amount of vegetal pepper. Finish: astringent on the sides of the mouth, dark fruit lingers for a few a minutes. Value: was excited for this but am a little disappointed, hopefully it opens up a bit as the bottle goes down. P.S. 2 months later, 1/2 a bottle down, and this has improved immensely. Numerically only popped up 0.75 points on this site, but the early vegetal note has completely fallen away, and a solid oak and sherry note are taking the lead with a cinnamon apple flourish. Going to buy 1, possibly 2, backup bottle(s) at this price. 5.0 - go out and buy all of the stock you can find. 4.0 - must buy at least one bottle before you die. 3.0 - solid, must try at a bar, or mooch from a friend. 2.0 - didn't like it, you may. 1.0 - you may have the palate of my dog, and he licks his own ass.80.0 USD per Bottle -
Lagavulin 12 Year (2017 Special Release)
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed March 1, 2020 (edited May 23, 2022)Whisky mountain top Half-full bottle, open 2 months Nose: smoke, brine, cream, vanilla Taste: VERY Viscous, citrus, salt-water, ash Finish: long, sweet cream, ash Value: Best whisky experience I've had. I already bought a back-up. Every time I pick up a different bottle for my whisky journey and see this on the shelf, I get a little sick to my stomach when I leave it there. Hours have been spent ruminating about going to the various package stores which still have this bottle and spending my wife's paycheck. 5.0 - go out and buy all of the stock you can find. 4.0 - must buy at least one bottle before you die. 3.0 - solid, must try at a bar, or mooch from a friend. 2.0 - didn't like it, you may. 1.0 - you may have the palate of my dog, and he licks his own ass.125.0 USD per Bottle -
Springbank 10 Year
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed February 29, 2020 (edited May 7, 2020)Bottle 1/4 full - 2019 version Nose: orange, smoke, tropical fruits. Taste: curve-ball with vanilla, but brine and smoke are the most prominent. Finish, medium length ash and salt. Thoughts: Heard this was the year to buy the Springbank 10. It was an enjoyable experience, and I would buy it as a gift for someone. However, there isn't enough of a draw to keep me from trying other whiskies around this price. If I'm going to pay $75-$80 on a bottle, I'm going to be adventurous, and not rehash a good experience at a fair value. 5.0 - go out and buy all of the stock you can find. 4.0 - must buy at least one bottle before you die. 3.0 - solid, must try at a bar, or mooch from a friend. 2.0 - didn't like it, you may. 1.0 - you may have the palate of my dog, and he licks his own ass.75.0 USD per Bottle -
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch C919
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 29, 2020 (edited April 20, 2020)Neck Pour, just opened, sat out for 10 min. Very condensed black cherry vanilla and oak on the nose Very warming and mouth quenching on the taste due to high proof. Bourbons, in my opinion, have a congruence from nose to taste with few curve-balls. That being said there is something very savory that translates all the way through; from nose to finish. Spice arrives on the finish, allowing this to linger for awhile. I imagine water might be a good addition in the summer time. The low cost and cask strength make this a must buy. 5.0 - go out and buy all of the stock you can find. 4.0 - must buy at least one bottle before you die. 3.0 - solid, must try at a bar, or mooch from a friend. 2.0 - didn't like it, you may. 1.0 - you may have the palate of my dog, and he licks his own ass.59.0 USD per Bottle -
Glengoyne 15 Year (Discontinued)
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed February 22, 2020 (edited September 20, 2020)Sad about the rumor that this may be discontinued. One month open, half-full bottle pour (I'm optimistic). Sweet ALOMND overall nose = trail-mix with Cheerios - not "honey nut" taste = ALMOND, but also a hint of tropical fruit and banana (dried with the trail-mix). Somewhat viscous Finish = short bread cookie and honey, and even more ALMOND. Value: Priced reasonably, but the score does take a 1/4 point hit for value - since its not worth buying a bottle (definitely a try before buy). A viscous, ALMOND-y experience throughout. This would be great either with, or for, a light dessert. I would also show this bottle as a great example on non-peated, non-sherry bomb, but still brings a unique, certain type of nutty :) experience to the table. 5.0 - go out and buy all of the stock you can find. 4.0 - must buy at least one bottle before you die. 3.0 - solid, must try at a bar, or mooch from a friend. 2.0 - didn't like it, you may. 1.0 - you may have the palate of my dog, and he licks his own ass.75.0 USD per Bottle -
Springbank 12 Year Cask Strength
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed February 20, 2020 (edited April 11, 2020)Batch 11, 53.8 ABV - 2015 Shoulder pour, 1 week open leather, cherry, malt, chocolate - nose salt, brine, oak, plum, orange peel bitterness - taste astringent, dark chocolate - finish Its a hard to find whisky with little comparison drams out there; would chase this to around $110. Something about this just tastes old to me...like a big-city public library. Its not pretentious, just authentic. The palate of this whiskey goes through multiple phases, and is wonderful to experience. However, each change isn’t dramatic, and feels carefully managed. I’m looking for a back-up bottle. 5.0 - go out and buy all of the stock you can find. 4.0 - must buy at least one bottle before you die. 3.0 - solid, must try at a bar, or mooch from a friend. 2.0 - didn't like it, you may. 1.0 - you may have the palate of my dog, and he licks his own ass.90.0 USD per Bottle
