Heaven's Door Double Barrel Whiskey
Other Whiskey — Tennessee, USATastedThe only one of the three that was somewhat interesting. Wood, wood for sure. But this base profile from Heavens Door is sweet and very hot. I'm assuming when Bulliet hit the market back in the day it was the same thing. So I guess we can say we can wait a few years to see where this one will lead. Im interested in that though. But dont expect much other than sweet, hot and woody rustic notes. I'd rather drink Wathens 8 generations or Bulliet Barrel Strength.
Heaven's Door Straight Rye Whiskey
Rye — Tennessee, USATastedUndrinkable. Bob Dylan should've tasted this before investing millions of dollars into a trash rye product!!
Heaven's Door 10 Year Tennessee Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — USATastedNot at all what I expected. Smelled of acidic formaldahyde with tones of wood. We even had to rinse out the glasses in order to get a drop or two of water residuals to get the aromas to come through. Even in my "Bourbon Junkies" Glencairn glass. I wouldn't buy it. Unless maybe it was the only thing in a gas station hundreds of miles from civilization.
Elijah Craig Barrel Select
Bourbon — KY, USATastedThatBourbondude just came back from a whirlwind tour of Elijah Craig Country. Yesterday, as we're tasting through some new Bourbons in the conference room, he whips out this gem. This bourbon encompasses all of those EC traits including sweet caramel toffee with notes of sweet roasted oak. Long finish, very little overpowering heat. Love this bourbon! My taste profile!
Willett 80th Anniversary
Bourbon — Kentucky, USATastedReally, really good bourbon. A medium to heavy sweetness on the palate that simply wasn't there on the nose. Full flavors of nutmeg and vanilla mid-palate. Heat builds up as it come down the back of the throat. That heat lingers for a short while until it simply can't go anymore. The one problem I had with this was that it didn't leave much of an impression after it was swallowed. I felt the lingering could've lasted longer. Otherwise, I really liked it.
Clase Azul Reposado Tequila
Tequila Reposado — Los Altos, Jalisco, MexicoTastedWow! that is a sweet sweet and smooth tequila. Probably the smoothest tequila I've ever had! Holy Mexican tequila, this stuff is amazing! I'm gonna hunt it down and buy it for the store.
Mozart Chocolate Cream Liqueur
Chocolate Liqueurs — AustriaTastedImagine a late evening concoction of Nesquik or Hersheys Chocolate syrup and while Smith Brothers milk....one pint glass full of fresh chocolaty milk...now add booze-a-hol!! This is Mozart. Chocolate Heaven!
Freeland Spirits Bourbon
Bourbon — USATastedI finally got to taste this tonight while all my bourbon buddies were opening crazy things like Heaven's Door and Rock Hill Farm and Parkers 8. But no, I had to try this sample from one of my reps. I was a bit surprised as to the ABV on this. 46%, Batch 002, bottle 550. Ok, that's the technical stuff. The nose was pleasant with colorful and lightly toasted semi-melted caramel. The palate was much more intense than anticipated. I got blasted with something reminiscent of non-alcoholic fake dark cherry consomé with medium cinnamon spice. The feeling in my mouth was overwhelming, but not in a good way. Because of the moderately low ABV, this Bourbon felt way unbalanced. Everyone's a critic and maybe I've trained my palate to coincide with much bigger bourbon houses in the midwest, but I still think if this Bourbon would have been closer to 99 proof, it would have been much more pleasurable to drink. All I got was flavor without much on heat. Too bad, but I hope Freeland creates a barrel proof in the future. I will certainly look forward to it. Cheers!
Highside Distilling Amaro Mele
Amaro — Washington, USATastedInteresting to see a local Washington Amaro. Very mild nose, even though it's on the higher end of ABV in it for an Amaro. Coffee, candied Toffee, lots going on here. Really different and probably a great cocktail product.
Highside Distilling Gin
Modern Gin — Washington, USATastedcrazy multitude of herbs and spices. That sweet Apple nose presses itself out through all that juniper presence. Little pepper and bay leaf finish. Immediate, leafy and pepper hit to the front and side of the palate. "Leaves a nice flavor in my mouth." Nice contemporary Washington Gin.
