Shenk's Homestead Sour Mash Whiskey
Other Whiskey — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed October 22, 2019 (edited March 7, 2020)Citrus on the nose along with sweaty corn husk and a light toffee almost saltwater caramel toffee-esk. Amazingly tasty, not as hot as expected on the nose. This may be in my TOP 5 of all time at this point. Thank you, Ram! -
Smoky and briny on the nose. Less ABV intensity than the 1792 and more than the J Drum. Not full flavored and a bit narrowed down to the earth of it all, but it's got this wonderful salty, earthy, charred burn on the tip of my tongue as a finish...a long, long finish. This is a perfect camping whiskey!!

1792 Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 21, 2019 (edited November 8, 2019)Much more briny and punchy off the start than the Johnny Drum (Previous). Tastes of burnt green banana peel with residual sugars bubbling on the surface. Very long finish for a sub 94 proof bourbon. FULL FLAVOR. I can see why Chad loves this. -
Johnny Drum Private Stock Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 21, 2019 (edited February 4, 2020)Stewed apples on the nose along with dried corn stalks. Extremely approachable for a 101 proof. Sweet on the lips even before ingesting. I've heard about this for quite some time and I'm super happy to have tasted this. -
Heaven's Door Double Barrel Whiskey
Blended American Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed September 25, 2019 (edited December 8, 2019)The only one of the three that was somewhat interesting. Wood, wood for sure. But this base profile from Heavens Door is sweet and very hot. I'm assuming when Bulliet hit the market back in the day it was the same thing. So I guess we can say we can wait a few years to see where this one will lead. Im interested in that though. But dont expect much other than sweet, hot and woody rustic notes. I'd rather drink Wathens 8 generations or Bulliet Barrel Strength. -
Heaven's Door Straight Rye Whiskey
Rye — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed September 25, 2019 (edited May 9, 2020)Undrinkable. Bob Dylan should've tasted this before investing millions of dollars into a trash rye product!! -
Not at all what I expected. Smelled of acidic formaldahyde with tones of wood. We even had to rinse out the glasses in order to get a drop or two of water residuals to get the aromas to come through. Even in my "Bourbon Junkies" Glencairn glass. I wouldn't buy it. Unless maybe it was the only thing in a gas station hundreds of miles from civilization.

Elijah Craig Barrel Select Bourbon (Heaven Hill Bourbon Experience)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 21, 2019ThatBourbondude just came back from a whirlwind tour of Elijah Craig Country. Yesterday, as we're tasting through some new Bourbons in the conference room, he whips out this gem. This bourbon encompasses all of those EC traits including sweet caramel toffee with notes of sweet roasted oak. Long finish, very little overpowering heat. Love this bourbon! My taste profile! -
Really, really good bourbon. A medium to heavy sweetness on the palate that simply wasn't there on the nose. Full flavors of nutmeg and vanilla mid-palate. Heat builds up as it come down the back of the throat. That heat lingers for a short while until it simply can't go anymore. The one problem I had with this was that it didn't leave much of an impression after it was swallowed. I felt the lingering could've lasted longer. Otherwise, I really liked it.
