Jefferson's Very Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 23, 2021 (edited March 26, 2021)Eyes: Light honey color. Nose: Sweet corn, vanilla, maybe a hint of spiced oranges and apricots. Mouth: Very creamy, smooth mouthfeel. Light and easy. Notes of sweet corn, vanilla give way quickly to a slight oaky bite. Notes: This bourbon is not complex and a little too simple for my usual tastes. However its not a bad bourbon and if I’m ever in the mood for a no frills, light, casual neat sipper, this fits the bill. Too light and thin to use in cocktails or maybe even to dilute with ice in my opinion. A good choice to introduce someone to bourbon who is kind of a newbie and thinks bourbon is too strong. -
Dark honey/amber color On the nose — sweet notes of banana custard, caramel and cherries jubilee, followed by spice and maybe a bit of cut grass. Decently complex nose. It really has clearly defined chapters. On the palette — rich, oily smooth mouthfeel. Very brief sweet notes of vanilla cherry fade quickly to hot spice. The bite is significant and I think not balanced enough by the more mellow notes. I’d probably bury this in a cocktail personally or enjoy with ice unless I was in the mood for some “bite.”

Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 15, 2021 (edited March 4, 2021)On the eyes: dark amber/copper/red brass. Nice color if that means anything. On the nose: light intro notes of honey giving way to darker notes of chocolate, leather, char and oak, slight hint of tobacco. Decently complex nose. I pick out new notes each time I sniff. On the mouth: vanilla, caramel, honey, brown sugar. Bit of an alcohol bite - to be expected at this proof. Long and dry finish of oak and note of tobacco. Would go nicely with a cigar. Smooth, heavy and rich. A little too much heat for an every day drinker but a solid bourbon nonetheless. -
On the eye: dark honey/amber color On the nose: honey/caramel/molasses underneath a note of oak. A nice balanced yet rich nose in my opinion. On the mouth: very nice mouthfeel, one of the things I notice most about this one. Heavy, smooth and rich. Flavors of caramel, nuts, and apple. Slight bite at the end that gives way to an oak/black pepper/spice finish.

Little too hot for my taste so I’ve been tasting this with a splash of water or on the rocks (my mood sometimes calls for heat but not lately). Subtle nose - certainly not overpowering - with notes of caramel, and a very subtle note of oranges and a little spice. On the palette — caramel, vanilla gives way to oak and leather. A bit too wood forward for my taste. Not my favorite but a good value. I tend to go for the high proof bourbons but for Wild Turkey I think I actually prefer the lower proof.
