Lagavulin 16 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed September 14, 2017 (edited November 11, 2017)Yesterday I had the chance to compare the bottom of a bottle of this beauty with a brand new one. There was quite a difference between the two. The old one was good but had lost some of his palate. You had a stronger cigar and leather taste at first, followed by a ''gap'' between the first taste and the smoky finish. The new one had the same taste but the gap was filled by honey. It had more oil and sweetness. With those mixing with the cigar and leather at first, it was a well balanced scotch. The cigar and leather were also more subtle since the sweet and the oil were mixing with them. 4.25/5 (For the new bottle ;) ) -

Compass Box The Peat Monster (Classic Brown Label)
Blended Malt — Scotland
Reviewed February 28, 2017 (edited November 19, 2019)This scotch is well done with different layers of smokes. Like camp fire followed with bacons crisps with some sea salt at the end. The smoke is not an explosion but rather a well maintained evolution that last around 15-20 seconds. A lot of depth. The texture is rich and oily. UPDATE: The bottle half empty, it's still a great scotch, but it has lost all its oily-bacon side. A very dry final. Not the same stoch anymore. It's like the oil has evaporated. The final is shorter too. Opened the bottle 1 month ago and stored it in a cool and dark room. I down rated 1 star -
McClelland's Single Malt Islay
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 28, 2017 (edited April 24, 2018)The first Islay Single Malt I tasted. I stayed away from them because of this one. My bad, I should have chose another one! Iodine, salty and no pleasure is what I remember. Not as smokey and peaty as I would like. -
[NOSE]: Alcohol, honey and vanilla. [PALATE]: Same sa nose with a bit spicy.. Add a drop of water and the alcohol taste fades away to let more room to the sweet and mellow side. [FINISH]: Mellow and smooth with the alcohol taste. [COMMENTS]: With 4-5 drops of water, the alcohol totally disappear. I like it better this way but it's still a very light flavour.
