I will preface this by saying I am not a scotch connoisseur... The bottles on my shelf are usually cheap, but picked for quality and specific flavor profiles. Monkey Shoulder fills the niche of a wonderfully light grain spirit with just enough aging to take the edge off its youthfulness. But it doesn't lose the young, fruity, lightly musty/grainy aroma and taste. It may not be especially complex or smokey like other scotches, but it is a highly enjoyable whisky what plays well on it's own or in a mixed drink.24.0 USD per Bottle

Mellow Corn Bottled in Bond Whiskey
Corn — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 13, 2019 (edited July 27, 2020)Anyone expecting this cheap bottle to satisfy their complex, fruit-forward burbon cravings is delusional. Buuuuut.... Anyone looking for a summer corn/fresh cut hay country vibe... look no further!! Don't try to force this unsuspecting corn whiskey out of its niche, and lean into it's cornbread-forward flavor. Drinking neat... Ok... But mixing with a little peach... or confusing your friends with a jalepeno old-fashioned... This little bottle can work some strange magic upon your heart.11.5 USD per Bottle -
Plantation O.F.T.D. Overproof Rum
Navy Rum — Multiple Countries
Reviewed December 13, 2019 (edited December 18, 2019)*Warning: NOT A SIPPER* Now that that's out of the way, this is a wonderfully inexpensive overproofed dark rum with enough molasses/demarara flavor to satisfy the most craving palate. Light oaky notes as well as some overripe banana/raisin funk make this a wonderful mixing rum, perfect to add a boozy punch to any tiki-esque drink. Favorite use: mix with a more funk-forward Jamaican, any good allspice dram, and fresh citrus for a potent Navy Grog!25.0 USD per Bottle -
Uruapan Charanda Blanco
Other Sugarcane — Michoacán, Mexico
Reviewed November 17, 2019 (edited June 17, 2020)An essential for whipping up low-cost cocktails! Only downside, compared to other similar agricole-category rhum, is that the half pot-distilled funk gets toned down by the column-still portion, giving the final spirit a finish that leaves one wanting. I give this 4 stars because the fresh grass/banana funk notes bring this rum well above the flavor profiles of similarly-priced whites, with a very strong nose and complexity on the palate. NOT A SIPPING RUM, but AMAZING in cocktails! Good to introduce friends to the world of esters.22.0 USD per Bottle
