Plantation O.F.T.D. Overproof Rum
Navy Rum
Plantation // Multiple Countries
Plantation O.F.T.D. (Old Fashioned Traditional Dark) Overproof is a group effort. Alexandre Gabriel, Master Blender for Plantation Rum, brought together six rum luminaries--Jeff "Beachbum" Berry from Latitude 29, Martin Cate from Smuggler's Cove, Paul McFadyen from Trailer Happiness, Paul McGee from Lost Lake, Scotty Schuder from Dirty Dick, and Dave Wondrich, cocktail historian extraordinaire.
Over many tasting and blending sessions, they formulated a rum ideally suited for use in top-shelf Tiki and tropical cocktails. The O.F.T.D. is a blend of rums from Barbados, Guyana, and Jamaica in the overproof dark style, and replaces Plantation’s Trinidad-sourced Original Dark Overproof Rum.

Navy RumAged rum that's often blended rums from English-colonized countries such as Jamaica, Trinidad, British Guyana, and Barbados. Technically, navy-strength rums are 54.5% ABV or higher, though not all overproof rums are Navy Rums. Taste-wise, Navy Rums are usually rich and funky, and best used in Tiki drinks or punches.

Tasting Notes
"In the glass, the rum presents a lush mahogany hue. Nosing it carefully (it’s 138 proof, after all) brings forth brown sugar and tropical fruit. The demerara rum from Guyana, with its smoky, molasses notes (similar to Lemon Hart 151) jumps out on the first sip. It’s soon joined by the fruity, ripe banana and pineapple tones associated with Jamaican rums. The finish lingers for quite some time, becoming dry and woody with a touch of chocolate. There’s no hint of added sweetening--a signature note in most Plantation expressions. Obviously the O.F.T.D. is intended as the powerhouse core of tropical libations, rather than something you’d pour in a snifter. Expect to see this rum pop up in Tiki bars all over the world. "
