Enjoyed neat in a Glencairn.
Nose: Sweet caramel, almost flan-like. Some concentrated dark fruits. Sugar sweetness with oak.
Palate: The palate closely resembles the nose, maybe even syrupy sweeter than the nose. Very smooth with a great mouthfeel. Sweet fruit towards the end. Some sweet cream with a somewhat creamy mouthfeel. Don’t be afraid of the sweetness because there is a slight floral and clove character with fresh mint that cuts through the sweetness.
Finish: Like a bite of creme brûlée with a leaf of mint on top, some clove hangs around on the tongue.
Overall: For the $30-$35 price point, this is an absolute steal! If you can find a barrel select version of 1792 BiB, you hit the jackpot. This bourbon is super smooth, sweet, floral and is a quintessential bourbon. One of my favorite go-to bourbons. Not a lot of hype behind it (yet) but it deserves it. Easy to pass over this on the shelf, but don’t!
