This Rye has more local street cred than the expert rater has given it. Yes this is quite unique but it is fantastic. The nose is unmistakable maple syrup, brown sugar & a nice Rye mint backdrop. The palette is a mixture of dark stone fruit, aged rum and really good Rye flavors. This gives quite the firm handshake for only coming in at 100proof though. Warning- it is sweet.
Maybe my favorite whiskey. Incredibly, wonderfully spicy, even with a hint of cinnamon. Tons of flavor. Just a bit of bite.
I can’t bring myself to mix anything with this, but I’ve got to believe it would be outstanding in a cocktail.
Very unique. Immediately hit with cinnamon, cardamom and other spices on the nose, as well as maple syrup and black pepper. Very sweet on the mouth with the rye flavors coming thru nicely, followed by more black pepper. It finishes with the sweetness of the rum casks serving up heavy maple syrup notes that linger on for a while.
Overall a little sweeter than I like my ryes, but definitely interesting nonetheless!
