Ardbeg 10 Year

A lemon tart thrown on a campfire Nose: smoke, oil, whiteboard marker, pine resin Taste: sharp and salty, oily texture, billows of smoke to the fore in the mouth, sweet fruity notes – lemon and lime I’m gonna say something. Nothing too weird - just wanna announce my opinion on something. Most likely you won’t be startled by this disclosure. It’s a fairly standard standpoint. A predictable position that many share. This is good whisky.

This is another one of my favorite scotches. It is comparable to Laphroaig 10 with the peat character throughout. I give Laphroaig the slightest edge on Ardbeg because it's always had a fuller flavor in my opinion. Ardbeg 10 has great smoky notes on the nose, and it retains that sweetness that a lot of Islay whiskies have. I get some grilled fish notes on the palate, and again that great Islay sweetness. The finish is a little muted, but smooth. The edge that Laphroaig has probably has the most to do with the finish. Ardbeg 10 lacks that full flavor at the end, but it is sill an excellent whisky.

It is a peat bomb alright but boy is it silky smooth! By far the palest color I have seen, which is very deceiving. Great value for money and a more palatable abv relative to its Corryvreckan sibling. Dare I say, beneath the peat hides a gentle sweetness. Definitely a keeper
