Aurora Borealis Gin
Anchorage Distillery // Alaska, USA
Aurora Borealis Gin is made by Anchorage Distillery in Alaska. Named after the Northern Lights, it is bottled at 40% ABV. In addition to the gin, Anchorage makes several vodkas and an unaged whiskey. The products, for the moment, are limited to Alaska for purchase.
Modern GinAlso has been referred to as "Contemporary", "New Western", "New Wave", and "New American". This style is not legally defined. In general, this category of gin, while it does contain juniper, places less of an emphasis on this botanical. Other botanicals not classically used in London Dry gins are often utilized and often highlight botanicals grown in the region the gin is produced. Most produced as either London Dry or Distilled Gins.
"This spicy gin is has very strong botanical notes, with the flavor of cardamom coming to the fore along with a hint of cinnamon. These takeover somewhat from the juniper, and also give it a balancing perceived sweetness. While it may be too light in juniper to play the typical role in classic gin cocktails, it could do well in drinks that take advantage of its spice notes."
