Pretty decent. Huge corn bomb on the nose and some char. Movie theater popcorn butter in the taste, but also bad char like a dirty grill, and corn. Not bad but not good at the price I know of a few straight corn whiskeys that I’d prefer.
I’m not a fan of the nose at all. Has a very familiar nose, similar to that of a semi famous secondary Tennessee whisky. I’m tasting off of a neck pour so I’m hoping once it rests it will be better. This tastes young, can certainly tell it’s a corn whiskey. It’s not a daily sipper type for me. Not bad, I won’t need another bottle for some time, maybe ever.
I’m impressed with most of what Balcones produces. The Baby Blue is no exception. It have a nice mouth feel and a smooth combination of flavors that include the signature corn flavor along with peaches up front and in back but with a mixture of vanilla, butterscotch, and toffee dancing in the background all the way through. This is a perfect drink for me on a Friday when I fire up the grill for dinner and look forward to the weekend.
