Balcones Lineage Texas Single Malt

This is a quick hit review. Initial reaction from neck pour. I’ll come back later with detailed notes. Just wanted to acknowledge @Ctrexman @Richard-ModernDrinking . Consider yourselves officially influencers. I ran out and grabbed this after reading your high praise review. I henceforth proclaim this bottling, The Curious Case of Benjamin Burton because EVERYTHING about it is counterintuitive. Or, it may be more appropriately called Freaky Friday since I cracked this open yesterday, the last Friday in November 2020...and because clearly, an American single malt has switched bodies with a Scottish highlander. It noses like a bourbon and drinks like a scotch. It’s young juice but tastes older. It is aging backwards and tasting forward. It IS good whiskey PoD. Good whiskey it IS. Such a great whiskey release. The blenders really did a great job with this one. Going from the Texas Bock which was not my thing, to this was a shock of how good this one ended up being. Even thought this is a low proof. This is great!

Balcones has done it again. Notes of cherry, vanilla, light wood smoke, and a lingering taste of red hots.

Compared to the original Texas Single Malt, this tastes more like a scotch with fresh peaches. As noted by others, sometimes even get peach gummy rings. Such a great value, now a fixture in the cabinet. Re-review, it's been more than a year since I last had this one. The fruit is still very prominent. Lots of apple, peach, apricot. There's a wood presence, but more on the nose than the palate. The fruit goes a smidge sour on the palate and finish, betraying the youth of this spirit. Overall, I'm still pleased for the price, but there's a little too much sourness. It's remarkable what they can accomplish with just 3 years in the barrel, but I'd really be curious what this is like after say 5 years.

A softer approach to their staple single malt. A lot of the same flavors, but turned down on the “burnt” caramel and baked fruit. Really nice and smooth
