Basil Hayden Subtle Smoke (2022 Release)

Basil Hayden is one of my go-to dependable bourbons. This special offering is a nice twist.

A definite subtle smoke on the nose. Not much peat on the tongue, but a smooth and fairly rich blend of flavor with wood, vanilla, and a touch of spice. Good finish, leaving hints of fruit and cinnamon.

Smoky at first, rich and sweet finish. Caramel / vanilla

Subtle smoke is in the name and smell along with notes of caramel and vanilla. Taste is slightly spicy upfront but mellows to warm in the finish with other notes of char, cinnamon, and oak.

The nose is subtle with notes of syrup and brine. The palette starts off surprisingly spicy and warm with a hint of caramel. The finish is slightly bitter and retains some heat from the palette with subtle oily notes. Very interesting bourbon!
