Booker's Bourbon Batch 2021-01 "Donohoe's Batch"

Brown sugar nose with nutty, lingering finish, medium heat on the end, full finish with slight spice cinnamon and spice

Full, smooth, slightly floral/spicy, easy finish. Better neat than with a cube. Really like the palate taste, but can be floral on the finish.

A very balanced dram, but I honestly am having a hard time describing it. I much preferred the "Tagalong" batch...

4.0 Stars - Excellent; 750 ml bottle This is an excellent bourbon. But I am not sure about all the buzz this particular batch has received. It is sweeter and more approachable. Of the five or so Bookers I have purchased, this is in third place. Brown sugar, dusty peanut, cracked corn, oak, leather. Almost none of the ‘old hay barn’ that I loved in other batches. Rich, complex, and oily. Bookers tends to avoid the overt flavors you get in other bourbons: fruit (cherry, banana, apple), baking spices (cinnamon, clove) and garden herbs (mint, dill). Some of those are in there, but are buried deep. Very unique and very good.

I recieved this as a gift and I am excited to taste it. Batch 2021-01E. 62.65% and very hot on initial taste so I've added filtered water to get to about 47%. Nose: Very classic bourbon nose. Lots of caramel. Some vanilla and baking spice presenting here as well. Some burnt cinnamon toast - classic. Palate: Lots to take in here. Initial salted caramel and some cinnamon. Definitely some nuttiness. Delicious dry oaky tannins subsequently present. Some peppermint lingers in the background. Finish: Long and dry. The oaky tannins stay around for awhile complimented by some burnt brown sugar noted. Warming of the palate is a pleasant late surprise. Overall, this is delicious and spectacular. The high proof shows the confidence in this whisky. I'm thankful (given this is just after Thanksgiving) to be a recipient of this whisky!
