Calumet Farm 16 Year Single Rack Black Bourbon

Sadly this is over-oaked . Oak was present in the 14 and 15 , but the 16 really feels like it went alot longer than one more year. Has hints of other notes of vanilla and dark cherry and cigarette leaf , but they really are pushed into the background .

Up front, I bought this for $70, much lower than retail, so I'm sure my enjoyment of this is colored by the lower price of entry than most. Drop an antique wood chair into a bass-o-matic, along with overcooked caramel, vanilla, cherry, pinch of citrus, cinnamon, and cacao nibs. Some might say this is over-oaked, but I think it's just short of too much oak. I'm not drinking much bourbon lately, but this is lovely and I wish I could've gotten several bottles at the price.

Orange, smooth, rich full Bodies, sweet, rich, full

I was excited to try this but all I am getting is strong oak and rye notes with a hint of cherry but it was barely noticeable to me. Pretty disappointed overall. Sure its “drinkable” but its not a $160 bottle and I can name 20 bottles in the $60-$100 rage that destroy this bottle.

At first it was overly oaked but after sitting for a couple weeks it opened up. Still not as good as expected. 14 and 15yo are much better

Red fruit, oak, smoke, sweet and savory. I enjoy it more with each experience.
