Nice rich notes of vanilla oak , coconut, tea , and burnt toffee. Struggled to find any special flavors on the original neck poor , but returning to this bottle in a few days after hitting the bottle shoulder is proving to be rewarding. I assume my palate was off when i opened it originally because the pour seemed to be inexpressive , but now the nose and flavors are very present . 100 proof has nice mouthfeel. Soft oak considering 15 years , but this proves to be handy as it allows the vanilla , toffee , hints of coconut, and sweet tea to be presented

Old Overholt 10 Year Cask Strength Rye (2023 Release)
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 5, 2025 (edited January 7, 2025)Nose shows its proof , but the palate seems to be more agreeable and delivers with notes of toasted oak vanillin and some brown sugar behind a definite rye spice backbone . Its my third pour in a flight , so some notes are hard to recover as they seem to just assume normal rye properties, but it is my favorite of the three rye flight -
Nose has notes of apricot and lavender . Palate feels like it drinks at a lower proof than i expected. Flavors of lemon grass and leather . Oak presence with notes of vanilla and salted caramel. Very good batch . From memory i would put this as one my favorite BB batches. I have had it unopen for about a year , but if i find another batch 34 , i will bunker a bottle .

Little disappointed. I typically enjoy Old Elk products and was pleased to see what i consideerd to be a special release from them , but find myself trying to figure out what expression the master distilller is trying to demonstrate in this bottle . I general i am gettin typical oak vanilla nites and some stone fruits. The proof selected seems to be inconsequential. Aged for 6 years, does not justify the price of $90. While there is no evident faults , I can name a dozen bottles that do this flavor expression for half the price .

Wow, this is really good. I tried a sample at a tasting bar at Total wine while traveling for work in the Louisville area. The server gave me a few recommendations and this one totally stood out and for the price i grabbed one . My Bottle at 56.2% proof is special . Nose has a lemony vanilla note ( Pledge wood cleaner ,but not too chemical for distraction ) and wonderful soft oak. The flavor is a rootbeer vanilla float. Notes of crisp apricot and cherry fruits and worm flavor mixed in. Holy cow. I have 80 open bottles in my bar and i keep coming back to this bottle since i got it. If i didnt live a few hours away i would drive back and grab this $40 bottle by the case.40.0 USD per Bottle

Black Saddle Bourbon 12 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky (bottled in California), USA
Reviewed July 27, 2024 (edited July 29, 2024)Nose has notes of charred oak and corn mash . Palate is decent and has notes of white grapes , oak , and soft oak. Decent delicate finish that actually last for nice length of time . I hate to use the word smooth , but this one does seem to have a nice taste that doesnt interupt the initial impression. however, that is also its con as it doesnt take the taster into any new notes or suprises. I could rate this a 3 star or a 4 star and justify the large difference depending on my mood for the night . I am about midway thru this bottle and each time i try it i get similar notes but a different opinion on how much i enjoy the bottle. Ultimately the juice is solid , still my expectations for a 12 year product are never met , but the price for this 12 year old juice its not to be overlooked. -
Calumet Farm 16 Year Single Rack Black Bourbon (Citation)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 15, 2024Sadly this is over-oaked . Oak was present in the 14 and 15 , but the 16 really feels like it went alot longer than one more year. Has hints of other notes of vanilla and dark cherry and cigarette leaf , but they really are pushed into the background . -
Nose is old leather book and hints of orange bitter . Smoke notes throughout. Taste includes the orange bitter and dark chocolate . There is a slight petrol note that is stopping this from being more special . Nice pour and this is my 4th or so pour from the bottle and i think it improves each tasting . Liittle pricy for the tasting experience, but glad to be able to share the bottle with dad on Fathers day .

Calumet Farm 15 Year Single Rack Black Bourbon (Whirlaway)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 26, 2024 (edited October 3, 2024)Soft oak , suprising for a 15 year juice . Notes of corn and barley grain . Decent pour but very average bourbon profile and price is too high for product in the bottle. Its decent juice , with no distractions, but blinded i would have guessed this to be $50-60 bottle , not north of $100 -
James E. Pepper Decanter Barrel Proof Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 17, 2024 (edited September 8, 2024)Wow. This is a very beautiful pour . Reminds me of another favorite of mine , Old Exra 7 Barrel proof. I even did a side by side and the notes were very similar. This edged it our with notes of butterscotch not present in OE7 . This deliveres on sodt oak , toffee. Butterscotch, sweetness but has notes of oak ., molasses and all dpice to keep the palate well balnced . Drinks dangerously easy for 105 oroof
