Caña Brava Rum Blanca
Silver Rum
The 86 Co. // Panama
Caña Brava is the premier rum introduced by the 86 Co., a partnership between industry insiders from Employees Only, comprising of Simon Ford, Jason Kosmos, Dushan Zaric, Malte Barnekow and Kris Roth. It is made from sugarcane grown adjacent to the Las Cabras distillery where it's produced in Herrera, Panama. It's made under the expertise of Master Distiller Francisco "Don Pancho" J.
Fernandez, who honed his craft in Cuba before moving to Panama in the 1990s. The distillate is put through 5 continuous stills - four copper-plated and one copper and brass. It's aged at 75% ABV for 18-24 months in new American oak, then cut to 49% ABV and transferred to a combination of used Tennessee and bourbon barrels for 12-24 months. It is then filtered for clarity in the carta blanca style popularized by Bacardí.

Tasting Notes
"This is a dry style of rum with only a hint of vanilla and coconut sweetness coming in at the finish. There's a fair amount of grassiness on the palate, with earthy flavors of bittersweet chocolate, oak, and charcoal. Zests of lime and grapefruit play into the grassiness to give it extra pep. Not ideal as a neat sipper, but is intended to hold its own in shaken, citrusy cocktails or topped with other mixers such as cola, for which it gets the job well done. "
