Caorunn Highland Strength Gin
Modern Gin
Caorunn // Scotland
Caorunn (ka-roon) is a gin brand made at Balmenach Distillery in the Scottish Highlands. This Highland Strength Gin was made using the same ingredients as the original version which includes five locally foraged Celtic botanicals: rowan berry, bog myrtle, heather, dandelion, and coul blush apple.
Six traditional gin botanicals are also used. Fun fact: the copper berry chamber used in distillation was built in the 1920s.

Modern GinAlso has been referred to as "Contemporary", "New Western", "New Wave", and "New American". This style is not legally defined. In general, this category of gin, while it does contain juniper, places less of an emphasis on this botanical. Other botanicals not classically used in London Dry gins are often utilized and often highlight botanicals grown in the region the gin is produced. Most produced as either London Dry or Distilled Gins.
Tasting Notes
"The nose has a distinctive berry and red apple fruit note, combining with pine and grapefruit peel. The palate has a pleasant medium weight, echoing the same fruitiness and evergreen notes from the nose, along with oregano, thyme, and bitter herbs. Some citrus zest joins the fruity and herbal notes into the finish, which goes a bit spicy, with only a faint hint of acetone. "
