Opened in March 2012, the Captive Spirits Distillery is the brainchild of Ben Capdevielle and Holly Robinson, a husband and wife team of gin enthusiasts who decided to try their hand at distillation. In contrast to the lighter, less-juniper driven gins that have come to define the New Western Style, Capdevielle and Robinson have moved towards the traditional dry-style that seeks a full, robust flavor (hence, the "big" in "Big Gin"). Their flagship product, Big Gin, uses eight botanicals in addition to juniper: coriander, orange peel, grains of paradise (ossame), angelica, cassia, cardamom, orris, & Tasmanian pepper berry. Bottled at 47% ABV.
