Catoctin Creek Kings Mountain American Malt Whisky
American Single Malt
Catoctin Creek // Virginia, USA
Purcellville, Virginia's Catoctin Creek Distillery collaborated with nearby Heritage Brewing, in Manassas, to create their first ever malt whisky. Catoctin distilled the Kings Mountain Scotch Ale from Heritage, which itself had actually been aged in used barrels from the distillery. A limited-edition, single-barrel whiskey, with 344 bottles made available, it was aged for a minimum of one year in a new, charred oak cask. Review from bottle 282.

Cask Typenew, charred American oak
"The bright nose is swirling with hops and malt, Christmas spices, lemon zest, ginger, and floral notes. The palate is closely aligned with that profile, with a definitive ale-malt-hop tandem, although sharper, ratcheted up. Takes a bitter turn at the start of the finish then lingers with a return to malty sweetness, with touches of cacao and toffee. Final, lasting notes as if a large gulp of sudsy warm ale was just consumed."
