Chicken Cock 8 Year Double Oak Kentucky Whiskey

Always happens, getting down to the end of the bottle and now it opens up. It’s all oak now and the profile has really smoothed out. Need to compare again the gold standard, Woodford Double Oak to see how it lines up.

Light, yet wood-forward nose with perky high notes. On the tongue the flavors are in the mid-range with a smooth, easygoing and mild entry. Notes of roasted corn, honeyed oatmeal, whole wheat toast and mild fig work together to create a lovely sweet character. The body is medium, while the finish is fairly long with some mild gingery spice at the tail end. Overall, this is a very agreeable sipper.

Color: Golden honey. Lighter than what I’d expect from double oak at 8 years. Nose: Apples, black pepper, pear, light vanilla. Taste: Light sweetness at first, still apples, almost a brandy-like mid palate, rye spice to finish. Overall: If I had to guess I think this is a higher rye whiskey. It’s got a good profile despite it being proofed down. Due to price and lower proof, I’d say it loses some value points, but its still an enjoyable pour.
