Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Barrel Proof Bourbon

Nice palette, but hits hard on the end. Amazing how different it is compared to 4 grain and other Taylor’s.

This is batch 8 coming in at 129.3. The nose is greets you with a strong rye spice and pepper, followed by oak, molasses, vanilla and touches of baking spice. The palate is dry but chewy and fills the corner of the mouth with strong pepper and baking spice, along with oak and sweeter notes of vanilla. It is however very spice dominant on first sip. The whiskey stays hot as it opens up, but the smoother notes of oak, vanilla and caramel begin to open up and provide some balance to the spice. The finish is medium with a spice that keeps your mouth feeling hot for quite some time, but rest of the palate drops off quickly.

It’s a day to celebrate. Finally the corner may be turning and 2021 is looking up.

Phenomenal. It was big and bold and full of wood spice. Kinda reminded me of Stagg Jr Batch 15, but not as dry and nutty. I liked this a bit more. It was kinda like an amped up version of my Booker’s (Kitchen Table). It didn’t have some of those cherry almond notes I get from the EHT small batch, but that’s ok. There was plenty of brown sugar and cinnamon to keep me company. The finish lasted for ages with every sip.
