Dad's Hat Straight Rye Whiskey release is made from the same mash bill as their younger offerings. With 80% rye and 20% malt, and no corn, it's in the range of a traditional Pennsylvania or Monongahela rye. This release has been aged for a minimum of three years in full-size 53-gallon barrels.
It's bottled at 95 proof, with an initial limited-run hitting shelves in October 2016. Expect future releases to grow in size. Note: As of November 2018, the distillery has replaced this straight rye whiskey with one aged a minimum of four years.

RyeUnlike bourbon, rye whiskey can be made anywhere in the world. But if made in the US, the mash bill recipe must be at least 51% rye and it must be aged in new, charred oak barrels with no age requirement. Elsewhere, the rye whiskey will be made keeping the country of origin's rules regarding the recipe and minimum aging.

Tasting Notes
"Bright spearmint leads on the nose with a range of herbal and medicinal notes, and traces of vanilla and cocoa. Find cedar and dry oak on the palate, along with more of its minty-herbal side. There's also plenty of rye spice, and lighter notes of chocolate and cloves. The finish is long and a bit hot, offering more of the same, with cedar, mint, chocolate, as well as touches of black pepper and rye spice. Finally a bit of prunes and dried fruits on the finish. Letting it open up for a few minutes offers more on the sweeter and fruity side."
