Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch C920

Open 4 weeks Nose - Dense, rich brown sugar and cinnamon, dark chocolate, artificial cherry, snickerdoodles and gingerbread, light corn dust, surprisingly light oak and ethanol. Palate - This is dense sugary syrup on the tongue. Maple cinnamon candy, crème brulee, chocolate covered cherries, almost no hint of ethanol. Finish is long and oily, sweet oak, light cherry mint (cough drops), and finally the proof rears its head. This is another outstanding ECBP batch, tied with B520 as my favorite ECBP releases so far (I've had 5 at this point). There may not be a better buy in high proof bourbon. I've never had any BTAC product, but it's increasingly more exasperating and hilarious the depths people go to find and pay for BTAC when this is widely available. Is barrel proof Stagg, Weller, or EH Taylor that much better? I'll probably never know at this rate, but I think I'll be satisfied grabbing 3 ECBPs per year.

Dark, ruddy amber, very sticky. Nose is baking spices, toffee, mint, tart fruit and rye mustiness. Reminiscent of cacao dusted pecans and a Mexican mocha. Deglet noor dates. Even with a good splash of water, there's still a lot of heat here. Dry oak, lots of spices (clove) and more burnt caramel. Long finish notes really become out with another splash of water: cinnamon, chocolate and toasted coconut. This is really a great way to experience a whiskey that "opens up" with the addition of water. It's big and complex, but almost too bright, hot and acidic for my preference. Revisited a 3rd time... Got the fruit this time. Berries or cherries of the more tart variety... the brown sugar I get, too. After looking at all of my ratings of 3.75 and 4, I can't NOT put this at a 4. It's massive, juicy and has an incredible drawn out finish. It may not be my favorite, but it deserves a 4, without a doubt.

Deep flavor, full, robust. Strength of alcohol comes through more than desired

This one starts off hot! And quite bitter ethanol finish. Astringent and drying. It opens up and mellows sitting in the glass. This is where it comes into its own. Caramel, cherry, savory salted pretzel and oak. A hint of leather on the finish - more oak and a little bit of that salted pretzel on the finish. This one feels a bit older than C919 with more oak presence. Overall exceptional for the money.

Mahogany color. The nose has notes of cotton candy, brown sugar, vanilla bean, and candied apples. Velvety mouthfeel. The palate had caramel apples, cinnamon-vanilla maple syrup, dark cherries, fresh ground nutmeg, white pepper, and lots of oak. The finish is long, hot and dry, oak forward with peppery spice and charred cinnamon stick.

Brown sugar, maple, vanilla on the nose, cinnamon on the palette, no ethanol overtone though u def know the proof as it hits the belly. Very nice KY hug. I like this 100x better than OF 1920
