This release from Elijah Craig features a new permanent addition to the brand's Toasted Barrel series. Here, a fully matured straight rye (51% rye, 35% corn, 14% malted barley) is re-barreled at barrel proof in a new custom toasted oak barrel made in partnership with Independent Stave Company. Since this finishing barrel is also charred, the whiskey retains its straight rye status.

RyeUnlike bourbon, rye whiskey can be made anywhere in the world. But if made in the US, the mash bill recipe must be at least 51% rye and it must be aged in new, charred oak barrels with no age requirement. Elsewhere, the rye whiskey will be made keeping the country of origin's rules regarding the recipe and minimum aging.

Tasting Notes
"The nose has aromas of seeded rye crackers, ripe plums, sweet herbs (dill, thyme), sage, nutmeg, and a good shake of cinnamon. The palate is robust flavorwise, but rounded and easy to sip. It has flavors of toasted sesame seeds, blueberries, ripe dark plums, oregano, and allspice. A subtle maple syrup-like sweetness carries the flavors into a soft, approachable finish. "
