Filliers 0 Year Young & Pure Genever
Filliers // Belgium
Part of the Barrel-Aged Genever range from Filliers Distillery, this is actually the only expression that didn't age in oak casks. Instead it qualifies as a Jonge Genever, meaning it has a maltwine content of less than 15 percent. Juniper berries are used as a botanical, to give this genever its signature character.
GeneverGenever is a juniper-flavored spirit which combines a botanically-flavored, neutral spirit with a maltwine. Only made in Belgium, the Netherlands, and in specific regions of France and Germany. Jonge genever is made with a maximum of 15% maltwine. Oude genever uses at least 15% of maltwine. Korenwijn genever uses at least 51% of maltwine.
"A very fresh and vibrant nose with lots juniper, this could be misstaken for a classic dry gin. There's some notes of coriander and orange peel as well. The palate shows a more distinct graininess, and has a nice viscosity. However, the juniper always remains on center stage. This could make for an interesting Genever & Tonic."
