Tasting again. The bottle has been open for a week now. Lots of oak on the nose that carries into the palate. The spice lingers and has some edges. Much better than when I first opened the bottle when it has an ethanol tone to it. That has subsided quite a bit.
Tonight's Kentucky hug comes from our friends at Four Roses. Their small batch select starts with a spicy burn that settles into a vanilla and oak char mix. The spice continues through the finish for a mild warmth. This is a unique flavor profile from the ones I've tried. Definitely not one of the sweeter bourbons, and the spice isn't overwhelming. It is a delightful marriage of spice, oakey burn, and subtle vanilla.
