Tasting Notes
"Sometimes performers hold back a bit out of fear of making a mistake. The aroma offers sherry cask trademarks: dried fruits, roasted nuts, and brown sugar. Some dark malt can be sussed out along with spices and pipe smoke. The palate shows great pedigree with a creamy mouthfeel and subdued sweetness. The alcohol does rear its head a little too much. The fruits seem steeped in it as if it will all be flambéed later. Towards the finish the flavors switch to savory with notes of wood char, smoke, and subtle tobacco. Adding water fends off the heat but thins the lovely texture. This dram knows all the steps but doesn’t give the flourish we know it can land."
