Havana Club Selección de Maestros Rum
Havana Club // Cuba
Cuban Maestro Ronero José Navarro led a team of Maestro Roneros (master rum-makers) to create this unique expression for Havana Club. First, the group selected a host of their favorite barrel-aged rums from among Havana Club's aged stocks. These rums were then blended and re-casked twice before being bottled at cask strength. Thus Havana Club calls this expression "Triple barrel aged". Note: This is not currently available in the U.S.
Aged RumRum that is aged, but no specific type or size barrel required. No set time required for length of aging, but will often carry an age statement (which should be taken with a grain of salt). Often thought of as "sipping rums".
"On nosing, there is a bit of astringency along with lemon peel and cardamom. Beyond these bright notes of fruit and spice lies Sherry and caramel, vanilla, dates and raisins. As the rum enters, there is ample dry, dusty oak, and quickly the palate is rapidly and thoroughly coated with bitter wood extractives and some tobacco. Just past the wood is the Sherry, and then a host of spices including cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg. Subsequent sips yield a bit of vanilla and caramel, and eventually additional fruits come to light, including orange, plantains, pear and tart apples. In the end, the finish provides some dates and raisins, but the bitter wood is the dominant factor, and the tannic notes of pencil shavings and saccharin take over completely."
