Hemingway Rye Whiskey First Edition
Rye
Hemingway Whiskey Company // USA
Named after American storyteller Ernest Hemingway, this whiskey is made from a blend of straight rye whiskeys. The majority of the blend (94%) is a 9 year-old straight Indiana rye and the other remaining portion is a 4 year-old Kentucky straight rye. The ryes were blended and finished in rum-seasoned oloroso sherry casks before bottling at 100 proof.
This wider release in April 2023 follows the inaugural batch of First Edition bottles sold in collectors packaging which sold out a week after its fall 2022 launch. (SRP $109.99).

RyeUnlike bourbon, rye whiskey can be made anywhere in the world. But if made in the US, the mash bill recipe must be at least 51% rye and it must be aged in new, charred oak barrels with no age requirement. Elsewhere, the rye whiskey will be made keeping the country of origin's rules regarding the recipe and minimum aging.

Tasting Notes
"The intensity of the aroma is moderate with rye grain, oak varnish and red apple skins making appearances. There's a touch of hay in there as well. As you move on to the taste you'll find a medium-light body lacking a chewy mid-palate. The taste is more savory than sweet, but there's some vanilla there. The rye is a little drying on the gums, but not negatively so. Further tastings reveal a little milk chocolate on the nose and a peppery bite on the palate. The length of the finish is average and it is really only there that any rum flavors stand out. Overall, the rye whiskey is still a little too tight to make this whiskey come together. "
