Reviewed February 5, 2023Light in body, but packed with character, Back Room Deal presents a very interesting flavor journey. Starting out somewhat sweeter than a rye, the smoke pops in after a few seconds with a subtle wash of peaty goodness. Then as this softly fades, there is a sweet caramel charcter that stays for the rest of the ride. The finish is fairly long with very light smoke at the tail end. A very easy going and easy to drink rye, the ex-Scotch aging adds an elegant air without overtaking the vibrant American whiskey. Try this with a fine cigar, or after a dinner of wild game and root vegetables. -

Reviewed April 18, 2022Oddball. Neat the nose says rye with light smokiness. First sip is a blend of herbal and floral rye with more prominent peat smoke flavor. Drop of water: all the same flavor but sweet and a mouthfeel like syrup. -

Reviewed January 5, 2022Overall a sippable whiskey. However, seems like false advertising. Not spicy. Not peaty. Drinks more like a sweeter bourbon. -

Reviewed January 1, 2022 (edited January 25, 2022)So this is interesting. The first pour I had from a new bottle was awful and made me wonder if whisky could go bad in a bottle. A year later, I "dared" to revisit this whisky and had a completely different experience, and I actually liked it. Try it before you buy it!
