Reviewed June 10, 2026 (edited June 19, 2026)Review #368 Charred Barrel group private barrel 130.7 proof, bottled 5/22/24 Glass: Glencairn, rested 15 minutes. Color: Medium amber. Nose: Mint, dill, vegetal notes. Palate: Baking spice, mint, oak. Finish: Long length with lots of heat. Splash: No new flavors are revealed. Overall: 9/10 - These JD SBBP ryes are knocking it out of the park, and at around $75 for 130 proof, one heck of a bargain. I recently paid about the same for a 100 proof JD Heritage barrel, and this is not only tastier but much higher proof for the same cost. -

Palate: Pepper, mint, oak. Finish: Long and warm. Splash: No new flavors are revealed. Overall: 7.5/10 - Honestly not my favorite JDSBBPR. Not to sound jaded, but this is a bit one-note, even at 137.8 proof.Worldwide Wine & Spirits -

Reviewed March 28, 2026 (edited April 14, 2026)Still very new to this hobby so take that as you will. This is my first experience with such a high proof whiskey and mind you, it did absolutely assault my young pallet. At first I was like, this is not for me, but the more I sipped it the more I came to like and appreciate it. Once I got use to the burn, I started to pick up subtle flavors hidden in the fire and quite enjoyed the super long finish. If anything, this has taught me that this hobby is a journey and given time and patience the pallet will evolve along that journey and open up a world of tasty adventure before your eyes. Cheers!69.0 USD per Bottle -

Reviewed June 25, 2025 (edited June 27, 2025)First experience with. Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select, Barrel Proof Rye Whiskey. This bottle has an unbelievable 69.7% ABV. 137.4 proof is so high that you can almost get double the amount of whiskey with added water than what was purchased. And trust me, you’ll need water. This whskey neat is very stringent and difficult to sip. On the nose: before adding water the aromas are of black pepper, charred oak, smoke, pine trees, mint, coriander. Very herbal, woody, spicy On the palate: Black pepper, pintree woods, cinnamon, charred oak. After added water and a bit of ice On the nose: Vanilla cream soda, cola, cloves, smoky. On the palate: It’s still spicy in the beginning. Nutty as well, minty and mildly sweet. It is definitely a challenge to pass the ethanol on this one as I noticed in their Single Barrel Bourbon. The finish goes to the ashy, smoky notes. Although I’ll have this bottle for quite some time as you can almost double its content with water, I don’t think it’s worth the price. Maybe I’ll change my mind after more sips, but it’s a hard sip.72.0 USD per Bottle
