Lagavulin 12 Year (2018 Special Release)

57.8% ABV. Limited Edition. Excellent!

Nose is more mild anc grassy, but bofy/taste is classical Lag

I got a small sample of this whisky; wow, this has a punch. At first, the peat was very intense, but after a few minutes, it let other aromas like citrus and a little honey/sweet come out. Matured in refill American oak, I was expecting a little sweetness, but it was not there. Instead, I found a little tart and harshness in the finish... For me is one of those whiskies that I have to be in a certain mood to enjoy it. In comparison, I can have a dram of Lagavulin 16 anytime.

Mossy floral aroma, peat and must. Flavor is a tidal wave of oak and caramel, perfectly blended. I'm sure there's peat smoke in there too but the balance and high abv just make the flavor one big storm. Rich and fiery, with an incredibly spicy tail. Best lagavulin expression I've ever had. 5+

Young on the nose. Reminds me of peat monster on the palate. Nice second half. Ashy, light peat. Caol Isla-ish too. Presents more like a 46% dram.
